What is Talizon?
At Talizon, we help you create a unique identifying mark, or "Talizon." A Talizon design showcases the images, qualities, values, and interests that represent you or your family.

A Talizon may be complex or strikingly simple in nature. Its style may be reminiscent of a European crest or it may have a very contemporary look. The choice is yours. Talizon's challenge and goal is to create a powerful and evocative design for every client.

What does the word "Talizon" mean?
The word Talizon is the combination of two words: "talisman," meaning "anything whose presence exercises a powerful influence on human feelings or actions," and "blazon," meaning "to set forth conspicuously or publicly."
Back to questions

How is a Talizon design created?
The first step is the completion of the Client Questionnaire contained in the Talizon Design Portfolio. It requests information about your design preferences that guides us in the creation of your Talizon.

Based on that information, one of our outstanding artists is selected to develop a variety of concepts for your Talizon. Your selection of one of these preliminary concepts is then refined until your Talizon is successfully completed.

Talizon representatives provide expertise in areas such as style, use of symbols, color choices, and the possible future applications of the Talizon. We also welcome the opportunity to work with your architect, interior designer, or other design professional during the creative process.

What can be included in a Talizon design?
Talizon designs are extremely varied in style because each reflects the uniqueness of its owner. To assist us in creating your Talizon, the questionnaire asks for your input in areas such as:

Style

Complexity of design

Imagery - the use and meaning of symbols

Text

Color

Possible future applications of the Talizon

Back to questions

How long does the Talizon design process take?
The creation of a customized Talizon generally takes a minimum of eight weeks from the receipt of the completed questionnaire to the delivery of the archival print of the design. The length of the design process is dependent upon the style and complexity of the design, and the number of revisions needed to complete it.
Back to questions

What happens after a Talizon is completed? What is archiving?
Two things happen after a Talizon is completed. An archival-quality print of the design is prepared and presented to you. We then digitally archive your Talizon for safekeeping and future use. Digital archiving is the process of transforming your Talizon into a digital form that is kept on a computer disk in Talizon's offices.

Once your Talizon is digitized, you can utilize it by contacting us to order products or to arrange for the delivery of your design for other uses.
Back to questions

What does a Talizon design cost?
The cost of commissioning a Talizon design generally begins at $2,500. The length of the design process largely determines the price of a Talizon.

What benefits do Talizon clients receive?

Back to questions

In what ways can a Talizon design be used?
A Talizon design can be applied to a variety of products that can be displayed and cherished for generations.

Stationery, jewelry, crystal, and silver are some of the most popular categories of Talizon products. But once your Talizon is digitized, we can work with you to have your design applied to virtually any type of product -- for you or your home, vacation home, car, or boat.
Back to questions

Are there any restrictions on the use of a Talizon design?
Talizon clients have unlimited personal use of their design. However, designs may not be used for commercial purposes without our written authorization.
Back to questions

Can a Talizon design be modified at a later date?
You can revise your design at any time. Modifications may be desired because of a change in marital status, the arrival of children, or evolving values, interests, or tastes.
Back to questions

What if I already have a family crest or a design that I want to use on Talizon products?
Great! We encourage clients with existing family crests or other personal insignias to archive them with us for use on Talizon products.
Back to questions

How is my existing design archived?
We archive your design in a digital form, just as we archive artwork created by Talizon. We charge a one-time fee of $250 for archiving. You will be notified in advance if we anticipate any additional preparation costs associated with converting your artwork to digital form.
Back to questions

Can an existing design be modified?
Yes. Sometimes a family crest or personal mark would be more meaningful or useful if it was modified in some way.
Back to questions

How are Talizon products ordered?
Talizon clients may order a wide variety of products at any time. Our products will be available online in the future, but until then, please choose from the offerings in the Talizon catalogue or let a Talizon representative assist you.
Back to questions

Can a Talizon design or product be given as a gift?
Yes! Talizon gifts are significant and meaningful presents, appropriate for many occasions such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, religious holidays, or housewarmings.

There are two ways to order a gift from Talizon:

Gift Certificates -  Gift certificates are available for the creation of a Talizon design or for products for Talizon clients. All recipients receive a beautifully packaged certificate and a catalogue of Talizon products. New clients also receive a copy of the Talizon Design Portfolio. Gift certificates can be prepared and delivered in as few as two working days.

Talizon Gifts - To give a gift complete with the application of a client's Talizon, please contact us so we can request the client's permission to use their design. At this point, the nature of the gift and the identity of the giver may remain anonymous if you prefer. The client must also give authorization should the giver want the gift shipped anywhere but directly to the client.

Who created Talizon?
Nancy Welts Schulte created the concept of Talizon as a result of her search for her own family's coat of arms. During her search, three different versions of the "Welts" crest surfaced - one was obtained from a popular mail order catalogue; another was found on a set of glassware purchased by her grandfather 25 years ago; and the third arrived in the form of some poor-quality drawings from an elderly relative.

The first two versions of the crests were not authentic, but the Office of Heraldry in England verified the authenticity of the third version. Its records show that the privilege of bearing arms was granted to the Axtell (later Welts) family in 1262.

While Nancy was pleased to have found her family's authentic coat of arms, she found it was difficult to form a strong emotional connection to a symbol that had been created almost 750 years ago. Clearly the use of symbolism is still strong today -- we embrace the logos of designer brands in virtually every product category. If designer logos are such a part of our culture, why shouldn't we create our own personal logos, as people have done for centuries? And so, the idea of Talizon was born.
